About RAFE:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett comes a new story in her Arizona Vengeance series… I was living my dream until one phone call changed everything. As the second line center for the Arizona Vengeance, my mind has been on one thing—helping my team bring home a championship. But that all changed when I found out my dad had cancer and only months to live. In that moment, nothing mattered more than getting home to North Carolina to be by his side. That meant asking for the unthinkable—a trade to the Carolina Cold Fury. Now I’m home and when I’m not on the ice with my new team, I’m helping care for my dad. And in the midst of my grief, I find comfort from the one person I never expected. Calliope Ramirez stole my heart at a very young age. The beautiful, smart, headstrong girl next door, she was my first… everything. She has never forgiven me for leaving her, believing that I chose hockey over a future together. What she doesn’t understand is that every decision I made was for her, and I’ve never given up hope that one day we’d be together again. Watching my dad slip away is a harsh reminder of how short life can be, and having Calliope by my side makes me realize I was a damn fool before. That changes starting right now. Calliope Ramirez is mine and I’m not going to waste the second chance that I’ve been given. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Cat's Review

RAFE by Sawyer Bennett. This tells the tale of Rafe and Calliope. I adored both of these characters. They have a history together that didn't end well, yet the love and respect for each other is obvious from the start. Rafe returns home to spend time with his ailing father. Calliope, a long time friend of the family too, is there to support him, despite how things ended between them. I loved her - she is so full of life and honest and simply, a good person. Rafe couldn't be any more sexier - his love for his family and for Calliope is unending and shows. Ms. Bennett does an amazing job of reaching out to the reader and making them feel all the feels. I smiled and cried and had my heart broken and yet she made it whole again too. It was fun to revisit some characters from the Cold Fury series as they are near and dear to my heart as well. The only drawback for me, was it is a novella and way to short - I am greedy and wanted more! Thoroughly enjoyed this tale - can't wait to read more that this author has to offer. Excerpt:

“You look like a fairy sea princess,” I tell her truthfully.
She blinks, waterdrops fall.
I can’t help it... I start laughing.
Immediately, I snap my mouth shut and bite down hard on my tongue. “I’m sorry.”
Calliope blinks again and then her lips part.
I snicker.
Then snort.
Her beautiful eyes narrow on me, and the next thing I know, she’s sending a wave of nasty pond water right at me. It catches me full in the face, hits the back of my throat, and I choke on it. I deserve it.
When I clear my eyes, Calliope is bent over, laughing hysterically, her shoulder dipping down into the water. The sound of her lilting voice is music to my ears, and I don’t want it to stop.
So what’s a guy to do?
I splash a wall of water back at her. She sputters and looks stunned for only a moment before her palms slap at the pond’s surface, and I’m caught full in the face again.
Then it’s on.
We both go at each other, laughing and splashing. Calliope comes up to her knees. She wobbles in the sucking mud but gets better leverage on me. I’m entirely doused by wave after wave. I hold up my arms, trying to protect myself, and suddenly realize I need to go more on the offensive.
I lurch up, lunge at her, and grab her wrists to stop the inundation. She’s laughing so hard she barely has any strength left to fight against me. Her face is flushed despite the chill, and I can’t fucking help myself.
I crash my mouth down on hers, feel her freeze in shock for a moment, and then gobble down the sultry groan that warbles out of her. It heats me to my bones, and then we’re clawing at each other.
Grabbing, fisting clothing, attacking each other with our mouths. My hands make their way back to her face, intent on holding her still so I can consume everything she has to offer.
The kiss is atomic, off-the-charts hot, and filled with so much emotion I don’t know whether she’s coming at me with hate or something else.
Doesn’t matter.
I’m not stopping.
Then something comes over me...a calm that feels like a steadying hand. I slow myself, make an exploring and leisurely swipe of my tongue against hers, and she melts into my body. An arm around her waist, I pull both of us to a standing position, the water lapping at my lower legs. I haul her into me and kiss her with all the regret I’ve been carrying around in my soul for years—a sincere apology.

CAT'S REVIEW

LUCAS by Sawyer Bennett.  Well, Ms. Bennett amazes me!  She has, once again, made my heart grow and swell with the emotions I felt throughout.  I adored Lucas! He's sweet and sexy and darn near perfect (of course, he's not, but pretty close).  Stephanie took a while to warm up to but Ms. Bennett once again makes sure the reader gets where the character is coming from.  This helped in getting me to like Stephanie better.  The story is fulfilling in so many ways - I laughed, I cried and cheered and booed.  While both Lucas and Stephanie believe they only want a fling,  a baby puts a bit of a kink in that plan.  Watching these two maneuver their way through the path of impending parenthood and what that means for them as a possible couple caught my undivided attention and I couldn't put it down.  It was also wonderful to visit some of the previous Cold Fury players, however, it is not necessary to read the previous books but I highly recommend them.  This is one of the only series that I have read each and every book and cannot wait for the next.  That's because Ms. Bennett creates characters that are so different in each tale - both the Hero and heroine.  And not only are the characters different but the plots vary tremendously too.   Yes, I'm a big Sawyer Bennett fan, especially the Cold Fury series, because I know that when I pick up one of her books, I will finish it with a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart.

"Max" (Sawyer Bennett) ★★★★★ AVAILABLE NOW!!!

BOOK SUMMARY

The ice is a cold mistress. As the league’s most eligible goalie, Max Fournier has access to his fair share of willing puck bunnies, but right now he’s more interested in bringing home another championship than a one-night stand. A romantic at heart, Max believes in love; he’s just not great at relationships. So when he finally meets a nice girl who’s not blinded by his celebrity, he’s feeling the heat—and the pressure to save her from herself.
Between working two jobs and raising her sister’s kids, Julianne Bradley doesn’t have time for sports—or men. All she knows about Max is that he’s the sexiest customer to ever grace her gas-station counter. And he sees past her tired eyes and makes Jules yearn for things she can’t have: a glamorous fling, a passionate lover, and the time to enjoy both. Max makes her feel like Cinderella, even though Jules has enough baggage to crush a glass slipper. Luckily, he’s no prince—only a fierce competitor determined to win her heart.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Max" by Sawyer Bennett.  Well, all I can say about this one is!  HOLY SMOKES!  Max is the ultimate book boyfriend.  He almost comes across as too perfect!  He is smokin' hot, of course, but what is so great about him is that he is smokin' on the inside too.  His adoration for not only Julianne but the kids too was off the charts.  His patience and kindness knew no bounds when it came to them.  As for Julianne, my heart hurt for her.  To go through so much and have so much on one's shoulders, can drag anyone down.  Yet, she's a fighter and keeps plugging away.  Despite the hardships, she is still loving and kind and because of the hardships, she's a bit guarded as well.  While it isn't necessary to read the other books in this series (but why wouldn't you!), there are appearances by characters from those previous books and I loved seeing them again.  The Cold Fury Hockey Series by Ms. Bennett is pretty much on the top of my list for favorite!  The characters are always well thought out and have a depth to them that make them believable and real.  The stories are also very deep in emotion and feelings, with all the makings of greatness - love and romance, angst, sports hunks and beautiful damsels (not always in distress though).  Ms. Bennett's writing style is one that is flows and the reader never feels lost or unsure of what is happening or where the scene is taking place.  I do feel that Max was a touch lighter than the previous stories, however, I loved it just the same and didn't put it down until it was finished.  I also wanted more and cannot wait until Roman's story coming up next.  Thank you, Ms. Bennett, for once again penning such a beautiful love story that held my heart and soul in it's grasp.     (received copy for honest review)

BOOK INFORMATION
Hawke (Cold Fury, Book #5)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: March 15, 2016

BOOK SUMMARY

The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

CAT'S REVIEW

"Hawke" by Sawyer Bennett. Hawke and Vale - high school/college sweethearts who go their separate ways when he leaves for the NHL.  Vale broke his heart and he never understood why.  When they meet again seven years later, it's time to learn the truth and see if their love truly was meant to be.  I liked Vale - at times I might not have agreed with some of her decisions - especially in her youth but she did the best she could and led with her heart.  Hawke is a typical sports Hero - cocky and living the life of a playboy.  However, when he meets Vale again, things change, much to his chagrin.  I liked Hawke - he's terrific with Vale and supportive. He's romantic and seems to really get the big picture except not always, especially with Vale.    I just didn't like his lack of trust and faith, albeit understandable at first.  It was fun to see a few of the previous characters - actually wouldn't have minded a bit more interaction as I've come to love all of them.  The new secondary characters were ok - not a big fan of Avery, but Dave was wonderful  Dave's relationship with Vale was beyond special and I adored how he treated Hawke.  I liked how the story flowed and that, while there is angst, it's not too overwhelming.  As a matter of fact, I was looking for a bit more at the end - it seemed to resolve a bit too easily for me but it went along with Vale and her beautiful personality and willingness to love.  With all that being said, Ms. Bennett has once again stolen my heart with this latest entry in the Cold Fury Series.
Note:  This is the 5th book of the Cold Fury Series. It can be read as a standalone buy why would you?  This series is filled with super sexy Hockey players and amazing heroines - check them all out!

EXCERPT
My father has never been one for pomp, sugar coating, or long segues. He cuts right to the chase. “I know you all have seen the news stories and I hate that it was leaked before I could talk to you. As of today, I have officially stepped down as the acting general manager of the Cold Fury.”

No one utters a word. Not a sound is made. This tells me that indeed, everyone has already heard the news.

“I’m appointing my daughter, Gray Brannon, in my place.”

And there it is . . . a distinct rustling sound as bodies shift in their seats. My father continues on, making firm and clear statements about my qualifications.

Graduated Princeton when I was nineteen.

Got my MBA from Kellogg at twenty-one.

Ph.D. in statistics from Berkeley at twenty-four.

Genius level IQ of 142.

Okay, Dad . . . that’s a little much. Get to the good stuff.

As I half listen to my father talk with pride about my two Olympic medals while playing for the U.S. women’s ice hockey team—one silver, one gold—I let my eyes roam over the group. The two front rows are composed of the coaching, equipment, and training staff. The players sit in clique-type groups based on what lines they play on. This isn’t by design, but I’m betting more because they have a unique bond and camaraderie. They almost have a sixth sense that enables them to read each other while on the ice.

My eyes pass over Ryker Evans, our team’s goalie, and then snap right back to him. He’s not watching my father but rather me, and I find myself unwillingly sucked into those silver-gray eyes. It happens every time I look at him, whether it’s in person or he’s giving an interview on TV, which is again proof that I am indeed a woman.

His lips tip up in acknowledgment of me and his eyes radiate congratulations. He gives me a nod of approval and then slides his gaze to my father, who is now lauding my scouting efforts for the Cold Fury. I’ve been the senior scout for the past two years and have scored some great players for the team.

I don’t immediately move my own gaze on, but rather take an unfettered moment to appreciate Ryker’s bold handsomeness. He’s called the Brick Wall in this league because he’s big. I mean really big for a goalie, but he’s still one of the most agile net minders I’ve ever seen. And still speaking as a woman for just a second, he has the face of a GQ cover model. In fact, I think he’s actually graced their cover twice if memory serves me. Dark hair, liquid silver eyes, and a beard of what looks like no more than three days’ growth that never gets shorter or longer, even during the playoffs. I’m quite sure when he’s ready to retire he could have a second career as a model if he was so inclined.

As it stands, however, I am far more interested in Ryker Evans for his athletic abilities than his face and I consider him to be one of my greatest acquisitions as a scout. I thought that even when our playoff hopes were crushed during Ryker’s first game in a Cold Fury jersey when he failed to stop a penalty shot, securing for us a big fat loss. I thought he was still a fantastic prospect even when the organization’s CFO, Bill Bowman, berated me in a staff meeting for insisting on such a pricey acquisition to the team.

I remember that day with actual fondness. Bill got all red in the face as he ranted at me, and my father just leaned back in his chair at the head of the conference room table and let me take it all on my shoulders. My father never fought my fights once I became an adult and I loved him for it. It meant he respected me.

It didn’t matter that it was wholly unfair to put that loss on Ryker’s shoulders. The fact is, the team—as a whole and with our regular starting goalie, Max Fournier—blew a three-game lead in the playoffs against Atlanta. Ryker came in cold off the bench when Max suffered a season- ending knee injury and was immediately placed in the net to face off against one of the best players in the league for a penalty shot.

And when he missed it, he became the pariah of the Cold Fury team.

At least for a little while.

But right now, it’s kind of hard to be the outcast when you have a .936 save percentage.

Yes, now my boy is back. He’s become a team leader—a man the younger guys look up to. He’s killing it on the ice, and I believe nothing is going to stop him this season. I can see it in his eyes, the tilt of his chin, the set to his shoulders. Ryker Evans, the Brick Fucking Wall, is going to lead this team—my team—straight into the playoffs. He has something to prove and that’s fine by me . . . whatever motivates him best.

“—which means that the only one who has to prove herself to you is Gray. I’m not even asking you to give her a chance because I know she’d never ask that of you either. I’m just telling you to watch and judge her on her own merits.”

My dad steps away from the podium and gives me a wink. He sweeps a hand out, indicating that I now have the floor. I didn’t have any expectations that I was going to be greeted with open arms. I didn’t expect applause, wolf whistles, or even metaphorical banging of hockey sticks to welcome me. In fact, I got more than I ever anticipated just from that quick nod of approval from Ryker Evans.

That’s fine by me.

Just makes this all the easier for me as I step up to the podium and prepare to cement my place in history.

CAT'S REVIEW
So, I picked up "Ryker" with a bit of apprehension - I've read the first four books in this series and fell in love with each one.  I thought, how could Ms. Bennett write another story that made me fall in love again?  Well, she did and in love I fell.  Ryker is all male - tall, strong and sexy, professional Hockey goalie.  He's a great dad and simply adores Gray.  I didn't know if I'd like Gray in the beginning. But she also stole my heart.  She tries to be this strong and tough woman but in reality, she's just good at her job and is truly a girl looking for true love.  Her insecurities, especially with Ryker's girls, touched my heart.   There's some forces against this relationship and I really liked how they handled it, especially Ryker.  However, Gray outdid herself at the end.  That was, for me, one of the sweetest endings. Ms. Bennett managed to incorporate so much in this one - there's love and romance, of course, but there's also some danger and an annoying ex as well as the issues of working together.  I'm happy to say that "Ryker" is now on my read again list, along with his fellow Cold Fury hockey brothers.    It is not necessary to read the first three books in this series, but I would highly recommend them.  You won't be disappointed.    (Received copy from NetGalley for honest review)
