Jane’s heart ached to see such deep anguish in his gaze. There was no rage, no anger, not even a trace of the moroseness she had seen so many times in his eyes during the preceding months. He stood in front of her as the true, loyal, and honest man she’d always loved and admired.
All the months she fought her feelings for him and now he wished to be with her. Tears escaped and rolled over her cheeks. He brushed his thumbs under her eyes, and it took every ounce of her strength not to collapse against him and damn the right and wrong of her yearning.
“Jane, please understand how hard it is for me to see you cry and not fix things to be with you overnight. What is starting between us, what I am feeling, cannot be ignored.”
Jane took a strengthening breath. “I am not the same woman I was a year, even six months ago, Matthew. I’ve changed. You’ve changed. Neither of us should rush headlong into the idea of us being together when there are so many other people involved.”
He frowned. “Like Elizabeth?”
She nodded. “And the villagers. And for me, the children at the boardinghouse. I can’t stop my dream to do good now that I have found the courage to pursue it.”
“Everything will work out. I will ensure it.”
He smiled softly, the gentle determination in his gaze seeping deep inside her until impassioned hope squeezed like a vise around her weakening heart.
He brushed the curls from her temple and pressed his lips to her forehead. “I have been blind. My sense of pride and loyalty to my father, a man who thought of me as little more than a cog in his ambitious wheel, has meant I wasted two years with a woman I tried hard to make happy. I refuse to waste any more of my life.”

CAT'S REVIEW
"Her One True Love" by Rachel Brimble.  I enjoyed this historical tale of love and growth.  Jane and Matthew - at times, they frustrated the heck out of me and other times, my heart swelled and I adored them both.  Jane is finally realizing what she needs to make her happy - I admired her strength and courage to pursue her dream of helping children, even if it was a second to loving Matthew.  Matthew, he was so lost.  His failed marriage did a number on him and, being a guy, was totally clueless to Jane's feelings.  I enjoyed their journey and seeing each come into their own and recognize their true inner beings.  The secondary characters were enjoyable as well and added depth to the story too.  The pace moves along, not too fast but not too slow, and I always enjoy when the writing style depicts both characters' POV's.  I would recommend this tale of love, friendship and self awareness.  (received copy from NetGalley for honest review).

Titus St. John, Duke of Kendal, is known as the Forbidden Duke, a mysterious, intimidating figure who enters Society just once each year at his stepmother’s ball. A decade ago, he was a devil-may-care rake until his idle roguery brought about the ruin of Eleanor Lockhart—and his resulting self-imposed isolation. Now she’s back, and she needs his help. The library was not a small chamber, however it seemed somehow smaller tonight. Kendal’s presence seemed to invade every nook and inhabit every cranny, and Nora was nearly overcome with awareness. And nervousness.
She rushed to say something to put herself at ease. “I quite enjoy the Satterfields’ library.”
He paused, pivoting toward the bookcases that marched along one wall. “Do you? What are your favorites?”
Nora wondered what he’d think of her tastes, which ran the gamut from romantic novels to gothic tales to poetry to suspenseful narratives. “I have many. I’m afraid it’s difficult to choose.”
“What’s the last one you read then?”
She hesitated, but only briefly. “A romantic novel by Sarah Wilkinson.” Presumably, he’d find her tastes lacking.
“I’ve read all of her books.”
Nora looked up at him in surprise. “You read Sara Wilkinson?”
He gave her a sly look. “Perhaps you noticed that Lady Satterfield owns every title. She’s always had a penchant for such stories, and, in my youth, I read everything I could get my hands on. Everything.”
Nora pressed her fingers to her mouth and giggled. “Do you like romantic novels?”
“I don’t dislike them. If I’m in a particular mood, I’ve been known to read three or four in a week.”
Her giggles turned to outright laughter. “The Forbidden Duke reads tawdry romances? What would the ton say?”
“I don’t give a damn what anyone says, but I suppose that would cause a stir.”
How lovely it must be not to care—not to have to care—what others said about you. “Everything you do causes a stir,” she said, her laughter dying down. “The novels would make you seem more human, however.” She inwardly winced at how awful that sounded. “Oh dear, please forgive me. I didn’t mean to infer you aren’t human.”
He took her hand and tucked her fingers beneath his coat, guiding her palm flat against his waistcoat directly over his heart. “You can feel that I am.”
Nora’s breath caught. She looked up at him, her gaze locking with his. “I never doubted it.”

CAT'S REVIEW

"The Forbidden Duke" by Darcy Burke.  This is a historical romance set in the 1800's in London.  It's a quick, enjoyable read that is well written and flows nicely.  Our main characters are Nora and Titus.  Nora was ruined years ago and settled on a life as a spinster.  I found her to be endearing.  Over the years she grew to be a woman that was confident in herself and was kind and caring and had a appreciation for anything that was good in her life.  Titus, known as The Forbidden Duke and and Untouchable, has much to regret, including his part in ruining Nora many years ago.  He wants to make things right for her which encompasses the type of man he truly is.  Of course, he devilishly handsome but he also has a tender heart.  The story itself is not overly dramatic - no really big drama scenes or angst but it's works.  It's a pleasant story that makes the reader feel good about love and life. As the first book of a new series, it has grabbed my attention and I look forward to the next.  (received copy for honest review)

“Sawyer…” There was so much she couldn’t tell him. So many reasons she should ask him to leave, to leave her alone. But the ache tightening inside of her would never go away if she didn’t touch him, if she didn’t feel the generous hunger of his lips against hers, the thrilling sensation of his hands reading every curve of her body. So instead of saying anything, instead of casting him out of her life, she scooted to her knees so she could reach his lips, first touching them lightly with her fingers. “You’re a good man, Sawyer Hawkins,” she whispered. And though she knew he couldn’t have her forever, she could give herself to him now. He could have her for this one moment.
His gaze fused with hers, the mesmerizing blue of his eyes smoldering like the center of a flame. His large hands settled on her hips and tugged them until she straddled him.
The swing pitched forward and she wrapped her arms around his neck to keep from losing her balance.
“This isn’t why I came here,” he informed her hoarsely.
“That’s disappointing,” she breathed against his neck. The stubble made her lips tingle.
Sawyer sighed in a helplessly delicious way and took her chin in his hand, bringing her lips to meet his, brushing them lightly in teasing preview.
Oh, lordy, lordy, lordy…the man could kiss.
He pulled back to look at her, but what good was that? She wanted to feel him against her, solid and safe and warm. So she wrapped her legs all the way around his waist cinching them tighter until the hard bulge of his desire for her pulsed between her legs. It was blinding the way he made her lungs pound, the way he sent her dizzy heart twirling in circles. His touch brought her somewhere else, made her feel like someone else. Someone whole and unbreakable. The person she’d always wanted to be.

CAT'S REVIEW

"More Than a Feeling by Sara Richardson.  Ruby and Sawyer - what a pair!  Ms. Richardson has written a tale that has deep emotion and heartfelt love.  She touched my heart with both Sawyer and Ruby's stories.  Ruby has had it rough but still tries to find a reason to smile.  It's hard for her to trust but Sawyer seems to get through.  Despite having his own heartache, he's a caring and kind man that, oh, is also super sexy.  Together, they are terrific and he is so patient with her and understanding, it's heartmelting.  The story itself is a good one, although, at times was a tad slow for me but I still really enjoyed it.  I liked Nellie and how Ruby took care of her too.  Having not read the first two books of the series, I was afraid I might be lost. However, that was not the case.  While it did take a bit to catch on to who the secondary characters were, it didn't not take away from Sawyer and Ruby or this story.  I look forward to reading the earlier books and catching up.   For an enjoyable read that is uplifting and heartwarming, I would say check this one out!  (received copy for honest review)

EXCERPT
Only a week after, he’d stuck out his hand and introduced himself as Tom, Tom Porter, in a sort of James Bondian way that made her giggle. They had been eating dinner at that very same hotel restaurant.
Only a week after that, dinner with Tom had become the norm rather than the exception.
The week after that?
They occasionally threw lunch into the mix, either her coming to meet him at some fancy place while her mom was in physical therapy, or him bringing fabulous picnicstyle lunches to her mother’s house, where he’d proceed to charm Jill’s mom almost as thoroughly as he charmed Jill.
Five weeks into Jill’s stay in Florida, Jill had stuck around for breakfast.
In his hotel room.
And then there’d been last night.
“Okay, okay, so he’s a dreamboat,” Elena said as the car crept slowly through rush hour traffic toward Manhattan. “How’d he pop the question? Champagne? Roses? Fancy restaurant with a water view?”
“Holy crap,” Jill said with a laugh. “Were you there?”
“I know all,” Elena said, extending her hands to the side as though she were some wise sage. “Did you see it coming at all?”
“Not even a little bit,” Jill admitted.
Not even with the expensive champagne, or the two dozen roses, or the fact that the restaurant staff seemed to be going out of their way to give Jill and Tom privacy at the terrace table overlooking the ocean.
She’d simply thought it had just been a really fantastic good-bye.
Instead it had been a bit more of a be mine forever and ever.
And Jill had said yes.
She’d said yes almost the second he’d gone down on his knee, not because she’d been that sure—she’d been pretty sure . .. sort of sure—she’d said yes because in that moment, Jill had wanted what Tom Porter was offering her.
A companion. A partner. Love.
And that’s what it came down to. Jill wanted to be loved. She wanted to love.
She loved her mother, obviously. And loved the memory of her father, God rest his soul.
And though she had no siblings of her own, the Morettis had filled that gap. And with the recent addition of Luc’s girlfriend, Ava, and Anthony’s new wife, Maggie, she had some amazing girlfriends to add to the mix.
And last, but never least, there was Vincent. Her partner. In some ways her best friend, although in a way that was different from her relationship with Elena.
But as much as Vincent sometimes seemed like two parts of the same whole, he’d always held a bit of himself back from her. From everyone.
He’d made no secret of the fact that he had no intentions of getting married, ever. Any fantasies Jill had had that her partner would one day wake up and see her were long gone.
Which left her a bit.. . lonely.
She wanted someone to come home to at the end of the long day who would just be there. Who’d pour her a glass of wine, maybe rub her feet and just listen.
Tom offered Jill what nobody else had offered her... ever.
Love. Commitment. A future.
And she knew that he loved her. Fast as their relationship had developed, she could feel it. And she loved him too. At least she was pretty sure.
“Aww, you like him,” Elena said teasingly, reaching out a finger and poking the dimple in Jill’s left cheek.
“I want to be happy, El. I want the happily-ever-after with someone who wants it with me.”
She met her friend’s eyes and saw from the flash of regret on Elena’s face that El understood what Jill wasn’t saying out loud.

I can’t wait for Vin forever.

CAT'S REVIEW

"Cuff Me" by Lauren Layne.  Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!  Having read the previous books in this series and having met Vin and Jill already,  I was so excited to read this one and Ms. Layne did not disappoint.  Vin has been my favorite in all the books - I adore grumpy heroes.  It's so much fun to watch them fall and watch as "the one" gets through the gruff and crankiness.  I enjoyed Jill's character too (although wasn't too thrilled with her at times). They make a great police pair and complement each other, both professionally and personally. Together they are so perfect, even if they don't see it.  The Moretti family is a family that many would dream of being a part of  - not perfect but loving and supportive.  I adore Nonna and I just wanted to hug Marie for her understanding of her son.  Ms. Layne, once again, haswritten a tale that is filled with love and family, some mystery and heartache but is mostly a love story that is simply beautiful.  My heart ached for Vin at times and jumped for joy at others.  The writing style flows and reads smoothly.  If you enjoy a story that has a touch of humor and filled with heart, read "Cuff Me" and I highly recommend the first two books of the series too ("Frisk Me" and "Steal Me"), although I don't believe it is necessary to read either first to enjoy this one.  (received copy from NetGalley for honest review)
