EXCERPT

“Wow. You’re a vision, you know that?” He practically drools all over. She wears a pair of blue jeans and a low cut green sweater with a white scarf wrapped around her neck. Her hair is up, and she wears light make up.

She chuckles. “Like what you see?” She smirks at him, daunting him. The little vixen can come out and play when she wants and he is enjoying this side of the sexy Gracelynn.

He decides to play dirty himself. “Want to see how happy I am to see you?” He smirks back at her. “Let’s make a wager, shall we?” he asks competitively.

She grins at him. She intently twirls a strand of her hair that she left down by her face between her fingers, licks her lips and stares at him. She looks him up and down, making him even more drawn to her.

He gulps. The damn vixen knows how to play dirty.

“Well, what is the wager? Because if it is staring at each other all night, I could do that and then some.”

CAT'S REVIEW

"Granted Wishes" by Tanya Vought. This is a love story about two people that are both lost in their grief that end up finding each other.  I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Gracelynn and Gio.  It progressed at a slower pace than many romance novels, which isn't a bad thing but, unfortunately, at times it seemed a bit too slow.  I felt for both characters, knowing the pain and heartache they experienced in the past, and, it's always nice to see someone that is struggling move on and to find someone to do that with.  The story was a bit choppy for me - I suppose it was almost too descriptive at times for it to flow easily.  There was also the voices - that was a bit of a surprise and I wasn't quite sure what to make of them.  Ms. Vought worked to include some drama and suspsene amid the love story and I have to say, I was a bit on edge while reading those events.  Overall, this is an enjoyable read but for me, there was a few quirks that just didn't work.  I will read future works my Ms. Vought as I believe she is on her way.   (received copy for honest review)

CAT'S REVIEW
Ms. Fletcher's characters, Dawn and Cree, are two of my all time favorites!  I have read the trilogy that introduced them to us (Highlander Unchained, Forbidden Highlander, and Highlander Unchained) several times and will surely read them again down the road.  When Ms. Fletcher released the short stories telling of further adventures for Dawn and Cree, I was ecstatic. And, Yes - I have already re-read these as well.  Ms. Fletcher did not disappoint!   Although they are short stories, each one contains enough love, suspense and even some mystery to keep the readers involved and enchanted.  I hope Ms. Fletcher will continue with more tales of these two - I, for one, am hooked!

I panicked when I found that I couldn’t move my feet, and then I realized that they were tangled in a soft fabric, the same kind that was covering my shoulders. When I tried again, I was able to pull up my knees, and with them I also pulled up something like a comforter or a thick blanket. This made me think that I was in bed, but I had no idea why and whose bed it was. Confused, I opened my eyes—the room was spinning with unclear shapes, and at the same time a headache kicked in. After struggling to keep my eyes open, I gave up. Darkness gave me relief from the spinning, but the headache intensified. What had happened to me? Did I get so drunk that I couldn’t remember anything? I searched my memory but found nothing that would give me a clue to where I was. The door opened, and a tall brunette in her forties came in with a big smile. Her face looked familiar, but I couldn’t recall where I’d seen her before. What was she so happy about?
“Hello, Julia. Did you sleep well?”
“Where am I and who are you?” I needed immediate answers.
“You’ll learn everything very soon. Right now you need to get ready to meet your host. Go take a shower, and I’ll leave a dress for you on the chair.”
“And why do you think I’ll follow your orders? My head is pounding, and I’m not in the mood to play games with you.”
“Oh, I’m not one to play games. I’m only following my employer’s orders. If you want to meet him, you have to get dressed. You don’t want him to see you with ‘hangover’ written all over your face. You need to refresh yourself a little bit.”
“Why should I care? I don’t even know who he is.”

CAT'S REVIEW

"Her Secret Christmas Hero" by Mallory Kane.  I have been a fan of Ms. Kane's for a while but I have to be honest and say, I was slightly disappointed with this one.  I found it a bit incredible the relationship between the two main characters.  While I sympathized with Allie and even Jacob, the relationship just didn't work for me.  While I do enjoy tales of love at first sight and others about couples that fall in love quickly, for some reason, this one just didn't work for me.  I didn't feel the connection  between the two.  However, the story itself roped me in - bad snowstorm, stranded together, rescues, Christmas - all the makings of a romantic tale.  I liked both characters, even if Jacob had a less than stellar background, they were both good people and lonely too.  I would have liked to have a bit longer story and had them spend more time together before Jacob had to leave.     Not a terrible story, just a bit ok for me.  (received copy from NetGalley for honest review)

CAT'S REVIEW

"Must Love Cowboys" by Cheryl Brooks.  This story tells the tale of Tina and a bunch of cowboys!  Well,  really just one but there are quite a few in the tale.  Tina journeys to a ranch to deliver items  to her deceased grandfather's friend.  Events lead her to become the temporary cook and she discovers she might have found her niche.  For me, this book moved really slow. Many things were repetitive and I found myself skipping over parts.  Tina was a bit of a mystery to me - the author wrote her to be shy yet I never, ever found her to be so.  It felt as if throughout both the reader and Tina were trying to be convinced of that fact.  Her relationship with Wyatt (and Dean too!) also didn't sit well with me - especially if she was so shy.  I felt the story had promise - it just needed a bit more spunk.  I liked the characters, even Tina, but wanted more from the story.  (received copy from NetGalley for honest review)

CAT'S REVIEW

"On His Watch" by Katie Ruggle.  This is a fairly quick read that kept me interested throughout.  I liked Derek, although he comes across a bit immature (typical male I guess! ), he is all business when it comes to his job.  Artie comes across tough and doesn't want to be seen as less than that, but underneath she's a caring sweet soul.  I enjoyed seeing them reconnect.  There is a bit of a sense of danger  - I would have liked to have seen that expanded on a bit more - I guess I'll have to read the next book in the series, maybe, to see what happens with that.   Overall, I enjoyed this read, would have liked to have witnessed a bit more of Derek and Artie, both before and after, but it was still good.   (received copy from NetGalley for honest review)

BOOK  SUMMARY

Sometimes the forbidden is impossible to resist…
Special Ops soldier Chase “Fiddler” Daniels is just back from a dangerous mission overseas. He needs sleep and sex—and not necessarily in that order. When Sophie Nash arrives on his doorstep, he doesn’t recognize the stepsister he hasn’t seen in ten years. Now they’re on the run, and grown-up Sophie is more compelling than he ever thought possible. But she’s off-limits, and Chase won’t cross that boundary—or will he?
Sophie Nash only wants life to return to normal. Get the files she mailed to Paris and find out what’s in them. Stop Grigori Androv from hurting anyone else. Live and let live. Except the stakes are high in this game of cat and mouse, and there’s no assurance she’s going to come out on top. Maybe that’s why she can’t quite resist Chase’s alpha magnetism.
Or why she finds herself falling for her very hot, very lethal—very forbidden—protector…

Cat's Review

"Hot Protector" by Lynn  Raye Harris.  This is the latest in Ms. Harris' HOT series and, although I have yet to read all the books in the series, I have read several and I think this one is my favorite thus far!  In "Hot Protector", we meet Sophie Nash - she is in trouble and calls upon her stepbrother, Chase.  Chase, a HOT operative, reluctantly helps her.  Sophie seems to be a spoiled, shallow person in the beginning - I wasn't sure how much I was going to like her.  Well, she proved me wrong and I love her!  She is sweet and funny and a bit sassy too.  Chase, being a true romance Hero, tends to be a bit of a jerk to her at times,  but I can forgive him being that he's one sexy guy!  Ms. Harris has written a tale that has a action and suspense, love and lust, and two characters that are meant to be together, despite the odds.  I certainly would recommend this book, as well as the previous works in the series - Ms. Harris has yet to disappoint me - I like her heroines - they are strong yet vulnerable and her Heros are uber HOT - and the stories keep me involved and enthralled!  Thank you, Ms. Harris, for another enjoyable ride!

CAT'S REVIEW

"A Bramble House Christmas" by C.J. Carmichael.   This is the first book of the series I have read and had no trouble following.  We meet Willa and her son Scout traveling in a bad snowstorm and along the way, we are also introduced to Finn.  I liked Willa.  She's a single mom that is overly protective of her son - rightly so, we come to find out. Her life hasn't been easy as of late and when she meets Finn, she falls hard.  Finn is a good guy, despite the circumstances that bring them together.  He's funny and kind and great with Scout.  Overall, this is an enjoyable read that is smooth and flows nicely.  It's a feel good story and although there is a bit of tension at some spots, it's not overwhelming and Ms. Carmichael, keeping with the feel good aura, smooths it over quickly enough.  There isn't any action or adventure - it's a simple love story.   Willa, Finn and Scout are enjoyable and work really well together.  The other characters in the story are fun too - even Aunt Mabel!  For a story that isn't overrun with angst and that will make you sit and smile, I would say check this one out.

EXCERPT

Master Chief Declan Swifton of SEAL Team Five rolled over the side of the Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boat and slid soundlessly into the Pacific Ocean. The RIB took off without even a comment from the operator, leaving Declan to sink farther into the drink.

The temperature cooled as he swam away from the surface. Fish skirted the edges of his thighs, small shimmers of movement against his skin. He scissor-kicked his way forward. The ocean currents caught him, dragging him in the direction they wanted to go, toward shore. He lay with his arms at his sides, frog-kicking only. Above him, he could see the afternoon sunlight glistening and frothy foam chasing away the glassy surface. Down here things were different…calmer. Peaceful, in a way few souls would understand, and yet he knew that even he would have to surface soon.

His lungs would start to ache and burn, his gut would begin to feel as if it would cave in, and that would force him to either head topside or drink in the salt water. But there was still time. This was the water in front of Imperial Beach and the apartment he lived in. He knew it very well.

Scanning the ocean floor, he gauged it would be about thirty seconds until he reached one of the many rocky sandbars out here. He’d have to pull up before then, or the force of the current would smack him against the side.
As his body began to complain, he used both arms and legs to draw himself upward. Breaking the surface, he opened his mouth and drew in air like a thirsty man would gulp water.
The waves bounced him like a buoy. The tide was coming in and the wind was picking up momentum. Looking at the sky to the east, he could see that there would most likely be a storm today. Over his should, to the west, he spied a wave coming his way large enough to take him to shore. It would reach him in about thirty seconds.
Dec took a long, slow breath and appreciated the sun dropping into the horizon. The colors were extraordinary; orange and gold dappled the horizon as the blazing ball of light attempted to sink before the moon lifted higher in the sky.
His hands flexed, cupping the water. It had been a hot day, and the sun’s rays had heated the top of the ocean, making the surface feel like a warm bath, loosening his muscles. Three months ago, he’d been in waters so frigid, with actual ice caps—the memory still made him cold. But here, the Pacific Ocean off California’s Imperial Beach, was a slice of heaven.
Coming in from the east were some nasty-looking cumulonimbus clouds. Seeing the lightning arc way off toward the distant desert, he decided it was time to go in, and right on cue, here came a perfect wave.
Swimming at top speed, Declan pushed his way through another changing current, one that sought to drag him into faster-moving waters. He went over a higher sandbar, having no intention of going to Mexico today, and increased the reach of his stroke. With single-mindedness he worked his way into the more placid surf as he homed in on a large stretch of beach.
The SEAL felt a few sea lions swimming around him, and one nosed him in the gut and another in his back a few times, assessing whether or not he’d play. Not this time, my friends. He continued swimming without engaging. If he stopped to play, he’d be out there for hours.
Switching to the breaststroke, his arms protested. His platoon had switched their training this month to desert-warfare techniques, and he’d been sweating his balls off in the heat. He managed to learn a thing or two, even now, after all of his years in the Teams. But it felt good to be back in the ocean, his element. He’d live in the deep blue like a Jules Verne character if he could.

CAT'S REVIEW
"A Seal Forever" by Anne Elizabeth.  Despite being book 3 of the series, I followed along with no issues whatsoever. Declan, a Hot Navy SEAL, meets his somewhat shy next door neighbor, Maura ,through interesting circumstances.  Their relationship grows and blossoms from there.  Of course, I liked Declan - being the big, strong SEAL, however, I didn't necessarily agree with some of his choices throughout the story.  I grew a bit frustrated with him at times.  Same with Maura, overall I liked her - she was strong and knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to work hard, yet at times I didn't quite get her.  Together they were ok - the chemistry was there but it didn't seem to be exploding off the charts as it sometimes does with H/h's.  I would have liked to have seen a bit more angst at times - I have to say,  Maura's reaction when he returns home surprised me a bit and I found it a little odd, to be honest.  However, the story itself is a feel good one - despite not much angst (which sometimes is a good thing), it flowed well and Ms. Elizabeth did a great job of creating scenes that the reader could actually feel a part of.   I enjoyed the secondary characters and their interactions with Declan were humorous.  After reading this,  I am looking forward to checking out the other books of the series and to reading more from this author.  (received copy from NetGalley for honest review)
