"Hawke" (Sawyer Bennett) ★★★★

BOOK INFORMATION
Hawke (Cold Fury, Book #5)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: March 15, 2016

BOOK SUMMARY

The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

CAT'S REVIEW

"Hawke" by Sawyer Bennett. Hawke and Vale - high school/college sweethearts who go their separate ways when he leaves for the NHL.  Vale broke his heart and he never understood why.  When they meet again seven years later, it's time to learn the truth and see if their love truly was meant to be.  I liked Vale - at times I might not have agreed with some of her decisions - especially in her youth but she did the best she could and led with her heart.  Hawke is a typical sports Hero - cocky and living the life of a playboy.  However, when he meets Vale again, things change, much to his chagrin.  I liked Hawke - he's terrific with Vale and supportive. He's romantic and seems to really get the big picture except not always, especially with Vale.    I just didn't like his lack of trust and faith, albeit understandable at first.  It was fun to see a few of the previous characters - actually wouldn't have minded a bit more interaction as I've come to love all of them.  The new secondary characters were ok - not a big fan of Avery, but Dave was wonderful  Dave's relationship with Vale was beyond special and I adored how he treated Hawke.  I liked how the story flowed and that, while there is angst, it's not too overwhelming.  As a matter of fact, I was looking for a bit more at the end - it seemed to resolve a bit too easily for me but it went along with Vale and her beautiful personality and willingness to love.  With all that being said, Ms. Bennett has once again stolen my heart with this latest entry in the Cold Fury Series.
Note:  This is the 5th book of the Cold Fury Series. It can be read as a standalone buy why would you?  This series is filled with super sexy Hockey players and amazing heroines - check them all out!
