BOOK SUMMARY

The USA Today bestselling author of How to Eat a Cupcake and All the Summer Girls returns with an unforgettably poignant and funny tale of love and loss, confronting our fears, and moving on . . . with the help of a poodle, a mutt, and a Basset retriever named Seymour

As a pet bereavement counselor, Maggie Brennan uses a combination of empathy, insight, and humor to help patients cope with the anguish of losing their beloved four-legged friends. Though she has a gift for guiding others through difficult situations, Maggie has major troubles of her own that threaten the success of her counseling practice and her volunteer work with a dog rescue organization.

Everything changes when a distraught woman shows up at Maggie’s office and claims that her dog has been stolen. Searching the streets of San Francisco for the missing pooch, Maggie finds herself entangled in a mystery that forces her to finally face her biggest fear-and to open her heart to new love.

Packed with deep emotion and charming surprises, Dog Crazy is a bighearted and entertaining story that skillfully captures the bonds of love, the pain of separation, and the power of our dogs to heal us.

Leanne shifts her gaze back to meet mine. The other big newfrom the week is that I was finally able to watch Titanic.”
I glance down at my notes.
“Holy smokes!” she says. I never told you the Titanic story?”
I donthink so.
Leanne brightens. Shes an enthusiastic storyteller, a trait shclaims was encouraged by her childhood dog, Bert, a Great Dane who had toleratedher elaborate dress-up games and soliloquiewith the stoic countenance of a Buckingha Palace guardsman beinphotographed by a drunken tourist.
Well, the night Darren brought Sealy home, Leanne says, settling back into the couch, we watched the movie Titanic. Anby that I mean Iwatched the movie while Darresawed his wathrough a forests worth of logs. Our new puppy slept througthe movie, too, curled up in thetiniest little ball on my lap. I remember petting her soft ears and thinking how crazy it was that I already loved her, how happy I was that there wasanother life ithe house. She shrugs. Well, you know. I missed the kids a lot.”
Yes, I say. And who wouldn fall in love with a sleeping puppy?
Exactly. She smiles. So she slept there on my lap througthe whole movie until finally the credits rolled and Celine Dion started singing herbig My Heart Will Go On song. She pauses. You know the one, right?
I begin singing dramatically, terribly, Neaaaar . . . Faaaar . . Whereeeever you are
Leanne laughs, begging me to stop. I think youv got thright song, she says, but ithard to tell.
I grin. What happened next?
Well, the moment she heard Celines voice, Sealy, who had been sound asleep on my lap, sprang onto her tiny paws, pointeher nose atheceiling, and let loose the sweetest, crooning, elfipuppy howl the world has ever heard.
So Sealy is short for Celine? Id always assumed Sealys spraof black, seallike whiskers had inspired her name.
Leanne nods. In her whole life, for the next eleven years, never heard her howl at anyone or anything else. Only CelinDion.”

CAT'S REVIEW
"Dog Crazy" by Meg Donohue.  I absolutely adored this one!  And the title is absolutely perfect!  I loved how Ms. Donohue portrayed Maggie.  She is a patient and kind counselor, helping her patients but struggling with her own issues after losing her own beloved dog, Toby.   As many of us readers can relate to, losing a beloved pet (dog, cat, any species) is traumatic and heartbreaking and I found that I was drawn to Maggie immediately - the grief is overwhelming.   Through her practice, she meets Anya, who is searching for her dog that she believes has been stolen.  Watching Maggie move past her fears and grief while she helps Anya is uplifting and encouraging.  I really liked all of the secondary characters as well.  Maggie meets Henry and a slow and beautiful connection develops.   Thank you Ms. Donohue for such a beautiful and incredible story of overcoming fears and moving on and finding love.   I would highly recommend this one, especially if you have ever loved any pet in your life.    (Received copy from Edelweiss for honest review)
