BOOK SUMMARY
ONE LAST CHANCE

Deirdre Murphy has had her life planned for her since she was born: Work in her parents’ noisy pub in rural Ireland. Live with her family until she marries. Marry her childhood sweetheart ASAP, since he’s decided sexy fun time should wait for marriage. None of it excites her. But before her fate closes in, Deirdre’s got one last visit to her Chicago cousins—where she can spend her mornings in a peaceful bakery, keep to herself, and savor the space she needs…. Until she meets Tommy O’Malley.

Tommy is as tough as his city and twice as ready to welcome her in. He’s covered in tattoos, stays up half the night inking them on other people, and has a reputation for being good with his hands. And he’s heart-pounding, forgot-her-words, can’t-stop-staring exciting.
Tommy knows he’s the opposite of everything Deirdre has prepared for. But to watch her set herself free, he’s willing to risk almost anything…

Deirdre tried to turn over, but felt trapped. Between her churning stomach and a warm body next to her, she didn’t want to move. Warm body? Her eyes flew open in panic. A tattooed arm wrapped around her waist. Tommy. Pieces of her night came back to her. What had she done?
Tommy snuggled against her, his breath fluttering her hair. His erection pressed into her back. Then she remembered why she’d come here last night. She’d wanted to have sex with Tommy. He pulled away and the mattress shifted as he stretched. She was afraid to move, unsure how bad the pain would be. She ran a hand over her body to discover she still wore her clothes from last night.
“How’re you feeling?”
His voice was low and rough and sexy.
The first two adequately described her. “I think something died in my mouth.”
He chuckled. “That happens when you mix a bunch of booze and then puke.”
Crap. She had puked. She groaned. “You held my hair.”
He sat up, patted her hip. “Having a little sister teaches you about those things. Sit tight.”
She had no plans to go anywhere. Reclosing her eyes, she tried to bring back more of her evening. Maggie, Cara, and Alyson had plied her with drinks all night. They’d danced a lot. She’d flirted with men. A lot of them. She had not been herself. Further evidence of that was the fact that she was in Tommy’s bed.
She couldn’t imagine the stupid things she’d said to him last night. The bedroom door swung open and Tommy was back. He set some clothes at the foot of the bed.
“I borrowed clothes from Norah, and there’s a toothbrush. Take a shower. You’ll feel better. I’m going to get us some food.”
Her stomach clenched. “God, no.”
“Trust me.” He stood next to her, handed her a glass of water and some pills. “Take these.”
She levered herself up on an elbow, putting her eye level with his crotch. His penis had made quite the impression on her back. She accepted the glass and pills. After swallowing, she swung her legs over the edge and let her head hang on her shoulders.
Tommy moved around the room. “Make sure you lock the bathroom door so Sean doesn’t walk in on you.” He paused in front of her again, fully dressed. Then he kissed the top of her head. “I’ll be back. Don’t go anywhere.”
She barely lifted her head to look at him. “I’m in no hurry to face Aunt Eileen.”
“Maggie said she’ll assume you spent the night at her house, so no worries.”
“When did you talk to Maggie?”
“After you fell asleep.” He pulled on his shoes. “Hope you don’t mind. I used your phone. You should probably have a passcode on that, by the way. I figured your aunt would worry about you not coming home.”
If Deirdre had been in her right mind, she probably would’ve worried. “Thank you.”
He smiled. “No problem.” Then he grabbed his keys from the dresser and left.
Deirdre felt weird sitting in Tommy’s room, especially when he wasn’t there. The room wasn’t very homey. Minimal furniture filled the space. A flat screen was mounted above the dresser. The bed took up most of the space. It was much larger than the one she slept on across the street.
Thoughts of her last visit barged into her pounding head and she shook them off. Only mentally, though, because moving her head hurt far too much. She grabbed the clothes and toothbrush and poked her head out. Sean’s door was still closed.
In the bathroom, she brushed her teeth twice and slurped some water. She still felt gross, so she brushed again. Starting the shower, she fought the awkward feeling of being in a stranger’s house naked. She’d never been in this position before. She’d had friends who talked about the walk of shame, but being a virgin in a serious relationship, she hadn’t experienced it. More firsts in Chicago.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Through Your Eyes" by Shannyn Schroeder is a story that is heartwarming and family filled.  Tommy and Deirdre certainly share some sparks but will it lead to a HEA?  Tommy is the perfect book boyfriend - I really adored him.  He's sweet and kind and really, really hot!  :)  Deirdre is friendly and nice but, for some reason, I just didn't love her.  I didn't hate her, just thought she was just ok.  I did enjoy the two together.  They complemented each other perfectly.  What I did absolutely love about this story (and series), is the big Irish family.  Family is such  a large part of the characters lives and the plots that it certainly makes the heart smile.  The interactions between the family members was lively and a big part of this story.    This is a part of a series, and, although this one can be read as a stand alone, it probably would be beneficial to read the previous books as the characters are mentioned throughout and it would help give you a good background to all the characters involved.    I have read the previous books and have enjoyed them too.  Ms. Schroeder certainly writes stories that takes the reader on journeys of love, family and heartwarming tales.  (Received copy for honest review)

A KNIGHT IN SHINING LEATHER…

IN YOUR ARMS
For Your Love #2

A KNIGHT IN SHINING LEATHER…

Sean O'Malley has never tried to hide who he is. He shows it in the motorcycle thrumming between the legs of his tight jeans…the shaggy hair that falls in his gorgeous eyes…the wicked gleam in his smile when he asks Emma out for a drink. Sean is a rebel, a bad boy, and a ton of fun: exactly the kind of guy she's sworn off forever.

Emma isn't just the prim kindergarten teacher she appears to be. And somehow Sean can tell. As soon as he pulls up to her overheated car he knows that a fast bike and a cold beer will fix her rotten day better than compliments or a bubble bath. Her straitlaced exterior and her wild heart light him up. But Emma wants to escape her past and settle down—and if her desk jockey dates don't understand where she comes from, at least she doesn't worry about them bringing her back.

One weekend of intense connection can't change the paths Sean and Emma have chosen. But with a little space to be themselves together, maybe the rest of the world can wait...

EXCERPT

The blast of air-conditioning hit them as the automatic door swung open. Emma paused, looked up and around, and turned toward the bakery. Sean followed. She kept walking, and he stopped by the coffee cakes. A chocolate-chip cake sounded good.
“What about this?” He held up the plastic container.
“Uh-uh. It needs to be birthday cake.”
Sean held on to the coffee cake but followed her to the refrigerated section. She looked at the display for a minute before choosing one. As great as Emma seemed, she sure had some weird quirks. She picked out a round cake with Happy Birthday written in blue handwriting. Red, yellow, and blue icing balloons decorated the edge.
Emma said nothing. With the cake in hand, she turned toward the register. Although she quickly offered answers to his questions, she wasn’t like other girls he knew, who would fill silence with any kind of pointless chatter.
“You okay?” he asked when they got to the self-checkout.
“I will be.” She scanned her cake, and he jumped in to scan his too before she could finish the transaction. Then he swiped his card to pay.
“You didn’t have to buy my cake.”
“I know I didn’t have to, but if I have a crappy day and someone buys me a beer, that beer tastes even better going down.”
His answer got the reaction he’d hoped for. A smile. Emboldened by her smile, he pushed on. “So why does it have to be birthday cake?”
She sighed and he thought she might not answer. “Birthday cake was the one thing my mom got right when I was a kid.”
He waited, hoping she’d explain, because how could anyone mess up store-bought birthday cake? They walked through the automatic door, and the heat of the afternoon swamped him.
“You met her. Even with that brief encounter, you can probably tell Brandi is far from a stellar mom. A lot of things were uncertain when I was little. But birthday cake was something we could always count on. It didn’t matter where we were living or even if she had a job, Mom made sure we had birthday cake on our birthdays.”
“It’s weird now that you mention it. I guess I always took birthday cake for granted. In my family, we’re all adults and we still make a trip to Blackstone’s to get a birthday cake.”
“For me, birthday cake is comfort.” She leaned over and bumped his shoulder as they walked. “I keep some in my freezer because you never know when you’re going to have a bad day.”
“Seriously?”
“Well, it’s not like I buy a cake and eat it all by myself in one sitting. It would be a waste to throw it out, so I cut it into pieces and freeze it.”
The walk back to his house was too quick. Sean liked Emma talking about herself. He didn’t know how he’d even managed not to realize how much he missed having a girlfriend. Then he remembered that every girl at some point pushed for something more than he wanted to give. He wasn’t about to put a ring on anyone’s finger. That kind of commitment would ruin his easygoing lifestyle.

Don't miss the other FOR YOUR LOVE titles!

CAT'S REVIEW

IN YOUR ARMS by Shannyn Schroeder.  In this tale, we have Sean and Emma, two souls that think they just want to "have fun" and not commit.  I enjoyed Ms. Schroeder's take on this scenario and liked both characters.  It was fun to see Emma try to be the good girl while Sean shockingly realizes that he wants to be more than the bad boy.  I enjoyed the author's take on the role reversal and it was certainly captivating to watch these two figure it out.  I will be honest and say at times, though, I did struggle a bit to get through because of some of the characters' thought processes, however, it was rewarding and well worth finishing and I am glad I did.  This is a pleasant read that can be read fairly quickly and perfect for a cold winter day.  (received ARC for honest review from NetGalley)

Maggie O’Leary is finally coming home to Chicago. After more than a year in Ireland, she’s ready to make a plan for her future. The idea of spirited Maggie in his bed is electrifying, but will she believe he wants to give her his heart, too?

They ate their dinner and watched the movie, with Maggie curled up close to him. They laughed and joked about the characters, and when closing credits came across the screen, he leaned over.
Maggie didn’t say anything, but her eyes widened. This was it, the moment he’d wanted for a long time. His fingers wrapped around the back of her neck and her pulse throbbed against his palm. Only her rapid heartbeat let him know she wanted this, because the rest of her was stock-still. Her eyes told him she wasn’t afraid.
“Relax,” he whispered against her lips.
And she did. She closed her eyes and her lips softened. He brushed against them, her breath quickening. He tried to follow his own advice, but there was no turning back now. This was no friendly kiss meant to comfort. This one conveyed his lust.  He’d wanted this for so long, he almost couldn’t control himself.
She was everything he imagined. Soft and warm, gentle and open.
His heart crashed against his ribs and his blood thundered through his system, urging for more. But this was Maggie, his friend and soon-to-be-lover. She deserved better, so he kept the kiss soft and slow, as slow as he could bear.
***

This was it. Shane Callahan was kissing her and oh my freaking God was it good. A giggle bubbled up but was squashed by how good the kiss was. She tried to focus to remember what it was like to be kissed like this, but she couldn’t concentrate.  His tongue ran along her lip and eased into her mouth. Shane was gentle and slow, but he controlled every move, every shift, every second of pleasure.
She grabbed his shirt and held on, needing to pull him closer, to feel his body touching hers. She felt the tingle of excitement and wanted to hold that feeling. Shane deepened the kiss, his tongue swirling around hers. While his hands stayed near her face, touching her jaw, her neck, her hair, hers roamed down his chest.
Time ceased to exist. The only air was the breath they shared.
By the time he pulled away, she was pliant and beyond relaxed, yet her nerves still thrummed with excitement. Maggie opened her eyes.
Shane’s thumb stroked her cheek. “You okay?”
“More than.” She leaned forward, wanting more.
Shane took the hint and shifted closer, angling his head and capturing her mouth again. Part of her wanted to feel silly. This was Shane, her buddy. She never knew he could do this. She imagined an awkward fumbling between them. Not this kind of simple magic.
Her heart raced and then her blood weighed heavy in her veins as lust took over. His fingers threaded into her hair and pushed it aside. His lips left hers and he kissed a trail across her jaw to her ear and down her neck. His hands finally—finally!—began to move over her body. He skimmed down her sides, barely brushing the sides of her boobs.
She gripped his head as he continued to lick and suck at her neck, his hands spanning her rib cage before they moved up and pressed against her breasts. Her nipples were hard points, sticking out, begging for attention. Using his whole hand, Shane kneaded one breast and then the other while he returned to her mouth just in time to swallow a moan.
Her entire body hummed and thrummed. If she had never vibrated with need before, she knew exactly what it meant at this moment. She tugged at his T-shirt and pulled it up to reveal his tight muscles and line of hair leading below his waistband. Desire pooled low in her belly and she welcomed it.
She trusted Shane to make this happen. She shoved at his pants, barely getting past his hipbones before he shot away from her.
“Whoa. Slow down, there.”
“What? No!” She reached for him, but he pulled his hips away.
He grabbed her hands and held them. “Maggie.” His voice was strangled. Inhaling deeply, he leaned his forehead against hers. “Slow, Mags. I’m not stripping you on the couch.”
“We can go to my bed. It’s not that far.” The bulge in his pants made her mouth water.
He sighed, then kissed her cheek. “Good night, Maggie.”
He stood.
Wait. What? He was walking away? She jumped off the couch to follow him. “Shane Callahan.” He looked over his shoulder. “Get your butt back over here and finish what you started.”
“I will. Just not tonight.”
“Why the hell not? What’s the point of getting me all hot and bothered and then walking away?”
He walked back to where she stood and held her hand. “You trust me, right?”
She nodded.
“We do this my way.” He kissed her again, this time on the mouth. Their lips interlocked and she still wanted more, but he pulled away. Again.
Damn him.
He walked to the door, and as he opened it, facing the hallway, he said, “One more thing. Don’t finish without me.”
The man was crazy. He got her horny and now he expected her not to get off at all?
When she didn’t respond, he turned to face her. “I mean it. You agreed to do this my way.”
“You’re insane.” She crossed the room and poked his chest. His very hard, muscled chest. “You don’t get to control my body. I can do whatever the hell I want.”
He smirked. “But what you want is me. Whatever you can do alone won’t be enough. Trust me. It’ll be worth the wait.”
He didn’t wait for a response. He walked across the hall to his apartment, leaving her gaping at him from her door. He waved with a smile as he opened his door.

She slammed hers shut. Unfortunately, it barely took the edge off her frustration.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Hold Me Close" by Shannyn Schroeder.  Maggie and Shane's story.  Maggie has returned home after living away for a while.  Shane, her best friend who is in love with her, does all he can to help her.  Maggie suffered a tragedy in the past and is working hard to move.  She asks Shane for help.  Shane is the epitome of a good friend and all around great guy.   He goes above and beyond to make sure she is safe and is ok.  Maggie, still struggling to overcome her past, and leans on Shane to help her.  At times, I grew a bit annoyed at Maggie.  I felt she didn't treat Shane that great and he would move heaven and earth for her.  I get she was dealing with a lot, but still, it irked me.  Except for that, I did like the rest of her.   The two of them together were fun and easy.   It was so obvious they were meant to be together, despite her not realizing it.  I also enjoyed the interactions with the rest of her family too.  This is book #6 of the series, I would recommend reading the others as it helps to learn the other characters we meet and the background.  Personally, I haven't yet read them but intend to  - I really want to learn all about the O'Leary family!  Ms. Schroeder has written a wonderful story that had me feeling good and laughing, but also was a bit of an emotional ride, having me shed some tears and feel the hurt the characters did.  I look forward to reading and following Ms. Schroeder in the future.  (received copy for honest review)
