"Chasing Christmas Eve" (Jill Shalvis) COVER REVEAL!!!

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes the next sexy, standalone novel in the Heartbreaker Bay series...

BOOK SUMMARY

Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spencer immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

…and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime

The bathroom door opened, and even better than his fantasy, Colbie emerged from a cloud of steam, her willowy body wrapped in one of his towels, her exposed skin gleaming and dewy damp. Her hair had been piled on top of her head, but wavy strands had escaped, clinging to her neck and shoulders.
He couldn’t tear his gaze off of her. There was just something so uncalculated about her, so . . . natural and easy. She was like a beacon to him, which was both crazy and more than a little terrifying.

Clearly not seeing him against the wall, she moved with an effortless grace to the suitcase she’d left at the door. Bending low enough to give him a near heart attack, she rifled through her things, mumbling to herself that she should’ve researched more about how to be a normal person instead of how to kill someone with an everyday object.

“Do you kill a lot of people, then?” Spence asked.

“Motherforker!” she said with a startled squeak of surprise, whirling to face him, almost losing her grip on the towel.

Five days a week, Spence worked out hard in this gym. Mostly to outrun his demons, but the upside was he could run miles without losing his breath. But he lost his breath now.

And that wasn’t his body’s only reaction.

BOOK SUMMARY
New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella!

It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

EXCERPT
Christmas Eve had the nerve to show up just like it did every year: way too quickly and with ridiculous fanfare.
The nerve.
Rory Andrews stood in the courtyard of the Pacific Pier Building in San Francisco, surrounded by sparkly holiday lights and enough garlands to give the place its own ozone, and told herself things could be worse.
She just wasn’t sure how.
It was the unknown, she decided. Because this year, unlike the past six, she’d be spending Christmas with her family, a thought that caused a swarm of butterflies to take flight in her belly.
Not an uncommon feeling since she’d turned twenty-three a few months back and decided it was time to become a person she could be proud of if it killed her. And given the guy leaning against one of the lamp poles clearly waiting for her, arms crossed, frown in place, it just might.
Max Stranton. At his side sat Carl, his huge, eternally hungry, adorable Doberman.
“No,” she said, not to Carl but to Carl’s owner. Who was not lovable. “No way.”
As always when their gazes locked, Max’s was a disconcerting mix of heat and . . . something else that she couldn’t quite figure out, as he was good at hiding when he wanted to be. She never quite knew how to take the heat because it seemed reluctant. He was attracted to her but didn’t want to be.
Ditto. He made her knees wobble. And also a couple of other inner reactions that shouldn’t be happening in public.
“Merry Christmas to you too, Rory,” he said, and damn. It wasn’t just his eyes. His voice was rough and sexy, and for that matter, so was the rest of him.
He worked for an investigations and security firm in the building. Basically he and the rest of his team were fixers and finders for hire. To say that Max was good at his job was an understatement. He stood there looking like sex on a stick with a duffle bag slung over a broad shoulder, his dark hair two weeks past needing a cut, and the icy wind of an incoming storm plastering his clothes to a body that could be registered as a lethal weapon.
“What are you doing here?” she asked calmly even if her heart was anything but, pounding all the way up to her throat and ears because she knew. She knew exactly why he was here. “I don’t need a ride home.”
A flash of wry humor slid in with all that sizzling heat. “Because you’d rather take two buses and a train than get into my truck with me?” he asked.
Well yes, actually.

CAT'S REVIEW

"One Snowy Night" by Jill Shalvis.  This is a novella from the Heartbreaker Bay series by Ms. Shalvis.  Having read the previous books, I was truly looking forward to Rory's story. (Note - it isn't necessary to read the previous but I highly recommend them).  Rory has loved Max forever and Max, apparently, has loved Rory just as long.  However, time and life have gotten in their way.  Will Mother Nature step in and help these two along the path to happiness and true love?  Ms. Shalvis has a wonderful knack for writing stories that touch the heart and are uplifiting and fun.  Reading other works by her, I find I always smile and chuckle throughout and I found this one no different.  Oh, and Carl - Max's dog - of course warms my heart and steals the show!  My only complaint about this one is that it wasn't long enough.  I really wanted to get into both of these characters more and see their relationship develop and grow.  I hope Ms. Shalvis will revisit these two down the road.   For the perfect feel good, holiday tale, pick up "One Snowy Night", grab a cup of hot cocoa and prepare to smile and warm your heart.  (received copy for honest review).

CAT'S REVIEW

"The Trouble With Mistletoe" by Jill Shalvis is a delightful tale that warmed my heart and soul.  Ms. Shalvis has a knack for writing stories that always bring a smile to my face (and often many chuckles) yet there's always a deeper feeling evoked as well.  Willa and Keane are two souls that have some hardship in their past that affects them both.  Will they be able to help each other see the beauty of love? Ms. Shalvis always seems to create characters that, for me, are real and emotional, and this one is no exception.  Both Willa and Keane made my heart hurt when reliving their pasts hurts.  I smiled with them and cried with them too.  There's a touch of holiday magic too, which, for me is always a winner. And let's not forget the animals!  Ms. Shalvis is a big animal lover, and that alone makes her one of my faves!  It was fun to revisit with older characters and see what's happening.  One of the nice things about this series, and many of her other series as well, is the group of family/friends that the series follows.  They are close knit and get too involved in each other's lives but it's all done with love.  I adore that and wish I had such wonderful circle of friends as created by this author.   "The Trouble With Mistletoe" is a sweet, loving tale that is perfect for the holiday season.  I cannot wait till the next book in the series comes out!  (received copy for honest review)

Willa sighed and headed to the door. Again Keane held the pink bedazzled cat carrier, which should have made him look ridiculous. Instead it somehow upped his testosterone levels. His sharp eyes were on her but they turned warm in a way that melted her right through her center as she moved toward him. She stopped with the glass door between them, hands on hips, hoping she looked irritated even if that wasn’t quite what she was feeling. His gaze lowered from her face to run over her body, which gave her another unwelcome rush of heat. Dammit. Now she was irritated and aroused—not a good combo. His mouth quirked at the saying on her apron that read Dear Santa, I Can Explain. Drawing a deep breath, she opened the door. “You’ve got Petunia again. I hope that means your great-aunt Sally isn’t still sick.” He looked surprised that she’d remembered his aunt’s name, or that she’d care. “I don’t know,” he said a little gruffly. “She left me a message saying that I was in charge for the rest of the week but for two days now Pita’s been happily destroying my jobsite. I’m throwing myself on your mercy here. Can you help?” Wow. He must be really desperate since he was actually asking and not assuming. But since Petunia was a sweetheart, she knew she’d do it. “I’ll even tell you where I went to high school,” he said, adding a smile that was shockingly charming. Wow. He hadn’t lost his touch when it came to turning it on. “Not necessary,” she said, painfully aware of their audience. Keane’s attention was suddenly directed upward, just above her head. She followed his line of sight and found a sprig of mistletoe hanging from the overhead display of small portable doggy pools. Mistletoe? What the hell? She glanced behind her and what do you know, suddenly Rory and Cara were a flurry of movement racing around looking very, very busy. “When did the mistletoe go up?” she asked them. “And why?” “FOMO,” Cara said from behind the counter. “Fear of missing out,” Rory translated. “She was hoping a hot guy would come in and the mistletoe would give her an excuse.” Willa narrowed her eyes and her two soon-to-be-dead employees scattered again. “Interesting,” Keane said, looking amused. “I’m not kissing you.” His mouth curved. “If you take Pita for the day, I’ll kiss you.” “Not necessary,” she said, gratified no one could see her heart during the two-step in her ears. “I’ll take Petunia for the day. No kiss required or wanted.” Liar, liar…     ttwm-teaser-6_teaserblitz
