BOOK SUMMARY
This long-awaited story of the third Wolfe brother introduces the Seattle Skookums baseball team.
Zeke Wolfe, the man who’s written off his entire family, rescues a young woman and three children on a stormy Seattle night. Before he knows it, he has an instant family and a fake fiancĂ© he’s certain he doesn’t want.

Paisley Madison dreams of having a real home for herself and her sister's children. When a handsome baseball player drops into her life, she knows a gift when she sees one and hires herself as his assistant.

As their business arrangement turns into something much more personal, Paisley and Zeke's pasts threaten to destroy their precarious hold on a future together. Can they conquer their demons and find love, or will they run from their pasts and abandon their future together?

EXCERPT

Paisley startled awake early. She bolted upright and winced when her back protested. Ignoring her whiny body parts, she blinked several times and squinted, attempting to get her bearings. The morning sun cast beams of light across the room and over the sleeping children. Last night flooded back to her in a rush of confusion and hope.
Being drenched. The hot baseball player. The old, creepy house. The pizza.
Checking each child to make sure they were all still asleep, Paisley rose, stretched, and padded out of the bedroom in her bare feet. The place didn’t look so creepy in the daylight. In fact, despite the obvious neglect, it was beautiful. She took her time exploring each room, except the closed door to Zeke’s room.
Zeke. Holy mother of all creation, he was hot. And he was wealthy. She wasn’t a gold digger by any means, but he had the money to pay her for a job well done, which had her wheels turning. She believed in making wine out of any beer that life threw her way. She’d keep her hands off and prove her value to Zeke. He needed someone to manage his life and battle the dust and spiders staking their claim on this grand old house.
He needed her.
Zeke’s house wasn’t just a house; it was a mansion by her standards. Much to her delight, it was perched on a hill among older homes overlooking Seattle and the water. She couldn’t wait to explore the stately old neighborhood. What she could see from the windows indicated the other homes were well kept, unlike Zeke’s. His yard needed as much work as the inside. She’d tackle that project, too.
Yeah, the poor man really needed her, and she’d make sure he knew it.
The house had seen better days and was in need of updating and TLC, but the potential shone through like an unpolished diamond among common rocks, and the view was priceless.
Last night’s deluge gave way to a partially cloudy morning with patches of blue sky. Rays of sun bounced off drops of rain on the leaves of nearby trees. The sun lit up the large expanse of water below. She hadn’t a clue whether it was part of the ocean or something else.
A few rooms in the house were stacked with boxes. Stray pieces of furniture were placed here and there. Zeke didn’t appear to have much in the way of personal belongings. She added shopping for furniture to her assistant to-do list. She’d create a design for each room with an overarching theme among them. Judging from the age of the house and the style, she’d opt for mission style, one of her favorites.
Paisley rubbed her hands together in glee, excited and ready to get started with her day. The kids could help. On Monday, she’d need to enroll them in a local school despite their lack of an actual home. During her nosy explorations she’d found a temporary option. The daylight basement level of this house had been converted into an apartment. It had big windows looking into the backyard and down the hill.
Perfect for her and the kids, and perfect for keeping them out of Zeke’s hair.
Now to work on selling her worth to Zeke. Her strict adherence to maintaining a positive outlook in all situations—last night being an exception—would serve her well. Zeke was a busy athlete just starting the season. Baseball players played over one hundred and fifty games a year, not counting playoffs. He’d be gone a lot to away games.
He absolutely needed her. Oh, yes, he did. She skipped up the stairs, singing a nonsensical happy song the kids loved. Cracking the door, she checked on them again. They were dead to the world. She couldn’t resist a glance into the room Zeke slept in. His suitcase was open on top of a rumpled comforter, but true to his word, he’d left early this morning. She’d heard his SUV as it backed out of the garage.
With a big grin on her face and a bounce in her step, she started her chores in the kitchen, giving it a thorough scrubbing after finding cleaning supplies under the sink. Later, she’d unpack dishes and put them in the cupboards.
The kitchen was beautiful under all the grime and dust. It’d been remodeled recently and had gorgeous wood cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances with a professional stove and oven. The previous owners must have run out of money during the kitchen remodel. The backsplashes were missing and the walls were unpainted, as if someone had stripped off layers of wallpaper, then left.
She stood back, hands on hips, and surveyed her work. The kitchen was gleaming. Everything was in its place.
Zeke would be pleasantly surprised.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Bottom of the Ninth" by Jami Davenport.  This is Zeke and Paisley's story and a heartwarming tale it is.  I adored Paisley.  Despite having some hardships in life, her outlook is bright and she is a smart and strong woman that is filled with love and laughter.  Zeke, despite being known as "Mr. Clean", comes across a bit harsh but, as we learn his history, it comes to life his hard learned lessons and is understandable. The two together were exactly what the doctor ordered!  The sparks fly, yes, but it's the emotional connection that got me and wouldn't let go.  The storyline is one of anguish and hurt and some really deep pain yet it also shines with hope and love too.  There is more than just the sports theme too, I enjoyed the old house makeover as well as the inclusion of the kids too.  Children in a story always make my heart sing, especially as they melt the heart of one of the characters as these three do.   Ms. Davenport has written this tale that is emotionally gripping yet had me smiling and chuckling at times too.  I couldn't put it down.  Having read the previous books, it was a joy to reconnect with those characters as well and Ms. Davenport did a wonderful job of bringing it all together.   I believe this is my favorite in the series, although the previous stories also grabbed hold of my heart too.  (received copy for honest review)

BOOK SUMMARY

As the wild child of the family, Bellani Maxwell isn’t interested in settling down. Between a fledgling party crashing business, teaching self-defense at a martial arts studio, and hitting the bar every night, she has her hands full. She doesn’t need the added responsibility or commitment of a relationship.

Hockey star Cedric Pederson has all the puck bunnies he could ever want, but a chance encounter eighteen months ago leaves him with eyes only for the gorgeous, free-spirited Bella. Too bad she isn’t interested in what Cedric has to offer beyond frequent hookups, and he’s grown tired of their on-again, off-again non-relationship. He wants to be all-in or all-out.

When a brutal attack leaves Bella in need of comfort, protection, and healing, the only person she wants is Cedric. But once she’s living in his condo, Bella is confronted with a decision she’s been avoiding—can she finally commit to Cedric, or will she let him go one last time?

CONTENT WARNING: Contains graphic and potentially disturbing descriptions of an assault.

Hugging the sweatshirt tight to her body, Bella hurried past a boarded-up building looming darkly across the cracked sidewalk. The gloomy brick façade gave her the creeps, and she trotted down the street, cutting across to the other side. She’d be soaked before she got to her car.
Miserable and desperate to get out of the rain as soon as possible, she decided to take a shorter route back, ignoring the detour, which would take her two to three blocks out of her way but along well-lit streets. Instead, she veered around the corner and into the construction zone, ignoring the “Do Not Enter” signs. She’d cut through here before but not alone. It was exactly the type of area she would’ve told her self-defense students to avoid as unsafe.
Only Bella was savvy and well-trained in martial arts. She could take care of herself. She had absolute confidence she’d battle her way out of any situation. Even so, a little chill slid down her spine, and she shuddered. Shrugging it off as unfounded, she attributed her nerves to the rainwater dripping down the back of her neck.
She had very little room to maneuver as she navigated along a sawhorse-lined path made of plywood and concrete with partially demolished buildings on one side and deep utility trenches on the other. She could barely see even with the flashlight on her cell phone.
“Admit it, Bells, this wasn’t one of your smarter moves,” she muttered to herself.
She frowned as she swore she heard a noise. Only, how the fuck could anyone hear anything over this incessant rain?
There it was again. Splashing. Like boots slapping against water-laden concrete and plywood.
Her heart rate accelerated, and she increased her pace, wishing she’d brought her purse with her Mace in it. Instead, she’d grabbed a small pocketbook. She refused to glance over her shoulder, even as her senses went on high alert.
She definitely heard footsteps, and they were gaining.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Bodychecking" by Jami Davenport.  This is Bella and Cedric's story - two souls who just like to party and have a good time but discover with each other, maybe they could have more.  Cedric is sexy and smooth yet also kind, patient and understanding. His care of Bella was heartwarming.  Bella is confident and independent yet, after suffering an attack, feels very vulnerable. Of course, this shatters her belief in herself.   She turns to Cedric.  Often, I struggled to like Bella.  Of course, I felt for what she went through yet I thought her stubborness was a bit too much.  Some of her choices bothered me and made me just want to shake her.  Despite not loving our heroine, I did enjoy the story.  Ms. Davenport does a good job of dealing with this brutality, as far as emotions that the victim suffers through.  I just wish she had Bella reach out a bit sooner. Overall, it's a good story that showcases the agony of victims of violence as well as how the true love offered by someone can go a long way to ease the path of those victims.  I do enjoy Ms. Davenports writing style and the story itself flowed and wasn't boring or slow.  There's some angst and a sense of danger as well, which always adds to a story.  I've read the previous books in this series and enjoyed those a lot.  I don't believe it's necessary to read those to enjoy this one, although it might offer a better sense of the background of the characters involved.   While this one might not be my favorite, I would recommend this series if you enjoy sexy hockey players and strong women that can tame them!  (received copy for honest review)

BOOK SUMMARY

Hockey star Cooper Black and professional party crasher Izzy Maxwell return in this sequel to Crashing the Boards.

Jealous boyfriends and glitzy parties can be a recipe for disaster. When the gorgeous yet controlling Cooper interrupts a party Izzy was paid to crash and almost ruins her career as a professional party crasher, Izzy kicks him to the curb. She learned early in life not to count on anyone, and she will not relinquish her independence, not even to a sexy-as-sin pro athlete who can melt her with one wink.

As the Sockeyes hockey team opens their inaugural season in Seattle, Cooper finds himself minus a girlfriend and plus a surly teenaged nephew. Cooper doesn’t want to be a surrogate dad, he doesn’t want to play in Seattle, and he doesn’t want to be alone. He misses Izzy, but seeing her with other men at parties turns him every shade of green. Regardless, he wants her back, and he’s willing to change, if only she’ll give him a second chance. Aware of her precarious finances, Cooper makes an offer she can’t refuse by hiring her to be responsible for his nephew when he’s traveling with the team.

Fearing Cooper isn’t capable of changing his control-freak ways, Izzy resists his efforts to turn their financial arrangement into a personal relationship. He needs a sweet, docile girlfriend, and Izzy cannot be that woman. Yet, when tragedy strikes, Izzy is there when Cooper needs her the most, and love has a way of getting what it wants, no matter the circumstances.

“What are you doing here?” Izzy hissed, ever mindful their voices could carry down the hallway to anyone loitering about the ballroom entrance.
“Looking for you,” Cooper growled right back while his gaze raked up and down her body clad in a form-fitting little black dress which revealed a tasteful amount of cleavage and bare thighs.
“Cooper, I told you I had to work tonight.”
He scowled and stepped toward her, backing her up until she hit the wall behind her. He put his big hands on either side of her face and leaned in. “I don’t like you hanging out with all these wealthy businessmen and athletes who’re salivating after you like tomcats on the prowl.”
“You are a wealthy athlete,” she reminded.
“Exactly,” he responded with a grimace.
“It’s just a job.” She stared up into his stormy blue eyes, forcing herself to stay on task and not get lost in those passionate depths.
“I have more than enough money to support you while you go back to school. You don’t need to do this job.”
“I love my job.” Izzy shook her head. She would never be dependent on anyone. After all, when you couldn’t trust your own parents to provide the bare minimum basics of food and shelter, why would you set yourself up to depend on anyone else?
“I don’t.” He glared down at her, his strong jaw set and his kissable mouth drawn in a firm line. If she kissed him right now, he’d forget about everything and the situation would be defused. Until next time. She gathered her strength and did what she had to do. For herself, her sanity, and her business.
“You, buster—” she jabbed her finger in his hard chest. “Do not get a vote.”
He ground his jaw. She cringed at the thought of what that’d do to his implants if he kept it up.
“Cooper, please—”
“This isn’t working. I can’t live like this, not knowing where you are and what you’re doing.”
“You know where I am. I tell you what parties we’re crashing.”
“Yeah, but I worry about you.” Concern softened the anger in his eyes, but judging by his clenched fists, it still bubbled beneath the surface even as he fought to control it.
“There’s nothing to worry about.” Izzy sighed. She wouldn’t quit this job. Number one, she loved it. Number two, it supported her three younger sisters and their college tuitions. Number three, Cooper would not take away her ability to control her present or future.
“You don’t know these people.”
“I don’t have to know them. It’s not like I’m going to establish a relationship with any of them.”
“You did with me.” He pointed out the fact that they’d met at a party her company, the Party Crashers, had been hired to crash over a month ago.
“That was the only time that happened.” She lifted her head and glared at him. “Is that what this is all about? You don’t trust me?”
A muscle ticked in Cooper’s square, stubbled jaw, and his face hardened to stone. That was all the answer she needed.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Crashing the Net" by Jami Davenport.  This is the continuation of Izzy and Cooper's story - it started in the novella "Crashing the Boards" but it can be read as a standalone.  This book contains it all - my emotions were all over the place.  Ms. Davenport does an amazing job of describing each and every feeling being felt.  I cried, smiled and cheered throughout.  Izzy and Cooper are a complex couple - both feel the need to be in control, which can cause a bit of conflict between the two.  Enter a teenager in the mix and things get real interesting.  Learning more about Izzy and Cooper's histories and why they are how they are was enlightening - made me like each character more and more.  I am enjoying this series and look forward to reading more from Ms. Davenport in the future.  For a super enjoyable read, pick this one up - Ms. Davenport scores with "Crashing the Net"!  (received copy for honest review)
