“I can’t believe I’m here with you. I mean, I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.”
His face softened and there was the ghost of a smile hidden somewhere in his bushy beard.“Still not a question.”
“How long have you been back?”
“Few months.”
“What happened to you? Do you leave again?”
“Got blown up, got discharged, came home, not leaving again.”
It was short, and she needed more information, but knowing he wasn’t going to expand, she moved on. “Okay,” she sing-songed, “are you married?” Then she heard the very familiar and very welcome chuckle of Jackson Irons. It hit her right in the chest. It was her first glimpse of the old Jax.
“No. Not married.”
“Do you want to know if I’m married?” she asked.
“Already know you’re not.” His arms were big and bulky and the way that he leaned into the island made him look impatient.
“Can you sit? You’re making me nervous.”
He pushed off the counter and sat on the chair across from her, the island between them. “What do you do now?” “I co-own Iron-Clad Security here in town. We do all types of security work including  bodyguard, government ops, cyber-security, securing homes.”
She held out her finger and pointed to herself. “I’m pretty sure I’m in the market for some of that.”
“Already on it, Meg.”
“Really? Don’t I have to hire you first, or something? Discuss prices? Sign a contract?”
“You think I’d sit back and wait for a stalker to break in again while we discuss pricing options? Fill out paperwork?”

CAT'S REVIEW
"Kiss, Marry, Kill" by Sidney Halston.  Having read many of Ms. Halston's previous works, I was very excited to start this new series.  And, as usual, Ms. Halston did not disappoint.  "Kiss, Marry, Kill" is filled with suspense, a sense of danger and, of course, some super sexy romance too.  Megan and Jax, two souls that met 5 years earlier and, although it was only short fling, connected.  Now, present day, the two are once again together.  Jax, a super sexy former Marine and current security business owner, is just a doll.  I adored him - he is, of course, HOT, but he's also so sweet and tender.  Megan, a successful pop star, has grown into a confident and independent woman.  She did annoy me at times, acting a bit of a pop star diva, in my opinion.  But, those times were overshadowed by the sexiness and love filled connection these two shared. The story keeps the reader on edge, never knowing what or when something might happen.  Despite the suspense of the story, there are plenty of happy moments and moments that made me smile and chuckle too.  I certainly recommend this story by Ms. Halston (and her previous works as well) and look forward to the next tale in this series.  (received copy for honest review)

He smiled and leaned down to kiss her. No ghosts out here to interrupt them. Just a chilly fall day when green-needled pines rubbed elbows with quaking golden aspen, their leaves dancing gaily in the cool breeze.

Brett’s gentle kiss turned hot and needy. No way was she pushing him away this time, ghost or no. This was what she’d needed. A kiss from a wolf who didn’t automatically dismiss her ghostly abilities. A man who was warm and gentle, but also passionate and oh so desirable.

This time Ellie did what she’d wanted to before, slipping her tongue into his mouth and stroking his. He crushed her against his body, revealing how passion- ately needy he was. She’d never seen a male shift who was aroused like that, and she had every intention of adding the image to her bedroom fantasy tonight. His lips continued to brush against hers, slowing the pace as if he were trying to get his rampant urges under control.

As hard as he was, he wasn’t succeeding.

He finally brushed his mouth against her hair with a long, lingering kiss. “Ready to run?”

His voice was heavy with lust, and she was having a difficult time backing off and letting the poor wolf get his erection under control. Instead, she wanted to rub against him, like wolves did, to show she was just as interested in him as he was in her.

Their pheromones had already spiked, boosting the burning need to consume and claim each other as mated wolves. Consummating a relationship only ended one way for wolves: mated for life.

Brett’s angular face softened as he pulled away, still holding her arms as if he wasn’t quite ready to let go.

“One of the things I wanted to show you is my great- aunt’s home,” he said as Ellie rested her hands on his hips, barely hearing what he was saying as she remem- bered how his erection had felt against her abdomen.

“It was my uncle’s after that, but it’s in ruins now. Lightning hit a pine tree, which caught fire. It started a fire in the woods, and my great-aunt’s home was con- sumed. The stone floor and the two chimneys are still standing. The forest has regrown up around it. It’s a lovely place to visit, near the river.”

That got her attention. “Did anybody die there?” She really didn’t want to meet any ghosts on this wolf run.

“No. My great-aunt had already died, and my uncle made it out just fine. Are you ready to run?”
“I am.” Though she’d really enjoyed all the kissing that led up to the run. She was relieved she wouldn’t be plagued by ghosts. At least she hoped she wouldn’t be. That didn’t mean someone else might not be haunting the area.

They finally released each other and began to yank off their clothes.

Because of the cold, Ellie hurried to strip as fast as he did. She had fully intended to avert her eyes and not check out his arousal, but she couldn’t resist peeking. As soon as she did, she got an eyeful—the cold didn’t seem to affect him one bit. When she glanced up to see if he had seen her look, Brett pulled off his shirt and smiled at her.

Her whole body warmed, and she swore waves of heat were radiating off her.

Naked now, she quickly called on the warming qual- ity of the shift, her body transforming in the blur of the change, the cold on her skin dissipating. She dropped to her four paws, her winter coat warming her as the snow- flakes settled on the outer guard hairs and keeping the snow from melting against her skin. Brett had already shifted and was waiting for her. She nudged his face in greeting before he licked hers and raced off downstream away from the falls.

She watched him loping through the woods, the strength of his muscles, his beautiful furry, black-tipped tail held stately behind him, and his head held high, smelling the air, watchful, alert.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Between a Wolf and a Hard Place" by Terry Spear.  This is a sweet and endearing story - I truly enjoyed it.  It's an easy read that is filled with friendship and family, a bit of suspense and even a touch of angst.  Everything that is needed to make a story flow and keep the mind and heart of the reader engaged.  The characters were real (well, as real as a shifter can be) and likable.  Both our Hero and heroine warmed my heart - they were true to each other, even when obstacles appeared in their way.  The romance blossoms and blooms and was simply lovely to read.  The secondary characters, including Brett's aunt, were fun and added so much to the story.  This one certainly falls into the paranormal world, with shifters and ghosts and supernatural stuff but, even with all of that, it is simply a love story.  And Ms. Spear did a wonderful job.  It's not filled with sex scenes or lusting after the other, but with heartfelt feelings and actions.   I say thumbs up for this one!   (received ARC for honest review)

Lumbering up in a battered, blue, Toyota Tundra extended-cab pickup truck and parking catawampus beside the tallest barn on the ranch.
He cocked his head. Who was she?
The woman hopped from the tall truck with the fluid grace of a playful water sprite more at home underneath a cascading waterfall than smack in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert.
She wore faded blue skinny jeans that fit like spray paint, cupping rounded hips and a firm lush fanny. A neon-pink, V-neck T-shirt showed off a hint of sweet cleavage. Her flat-heeled cowboy boots were scuffed and dusty. From this distance, it appeared as if she didn’t have on a lick of makeup, and her thick dark hair was pulled into twin braids. A gust of hot, lazy June air blew across the sand, and her nimble fingers reached up to tuck a tendril of loosened hair behind one ear.
Ridge had a startling vision of easing the elastic bands from her hair, undoing the braids, and watching that tumble of hair fall over his hand soft and smooth as liquid silk.
What the hell? Why the instant lust? Normally, he went for tall willowy blondes like Vivi. Not petite, shapely brunettes.
Why?
That was easy enough to answer. A) The brunette was smoking hot. B) There was something familiar about her, something warm and cozy and inviting. C) He hadn’t had sex in so long he’d almost forgotten what it felt like.
Hope cut into him, gutted him open, leaving him raw and hungry. Hey, who knew? There was a wedding this weekend—alcohol, food, music, slow dancing. Maybe they’d hook up.
Easy Lockhart, getting ahead of yourself.
He didn’t even know her name, or if she was involved with someone, or if she’d even been invited to the wedding.
No, but that didn’t stop steamy sexual fantasies from unspooling inside his head. Nor could he shake an odd feeling that he’d gone fishing for shad and managed to hook a mermaid instead.
The woman opened the extended cab’s passenger side door and bent over, butt wiggling as she ducked her head inside to retrieve something from the backseat. That round wriggly rump robbed the air from his lungs, highjacked his brain as effectively as a gun-toting bandit.
As the owner and CEO of Lock Ridge Drilling, he made snap decisions on a daily basis and he’d honed the skill of sizing up people at a glance.
From the click-quick snapshot trapped in that breathless time of his mind, Ridge knew she was the spunky girl-next-door type. Able to climb trees, make chicken soup for a sick neighbor, organize a charity drive, spike a witty barb at smart-ass-know-it-alls, passionately root for her favorite sports team complete with face paint and logo jerseys, park her butt in the church pew every Sunday morning, and cheerfully answer three a.m. phone calls from friends in need.
She was, in fact, everything Ridge was not—perky, happy-go-lucky, laid-back, a rule-following, people-pleasing team player.
Not his type. Not in the least.
Which probably explained the pounding lust. He had a knack for picking women who were all wrong for him.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Million Dollar Cowboy" by Lori Wilde.  I enjoyed this tale that tells the story of two souls that are fated to be together.  Ridge is just that - a bit rigid, at least when it comes to his feelings.  Of course, he's sexy as sin and, deep down, a really good and loving guy, but he's lost his way striving to be the best.  Kaia, having survived some rough spots, does her best to live life joyfully.  I really liked both of them and enjoyed their fun and spontaneity during the time they spent together. At times, though not often, Kaia did annoy me just a bit.  While it was done out of love, her talks with Ridge bordered a bit on a therapy session.  However, Ms. Wilde is able to turn these talks into something more and for that i was grateful.   The other characters in this tale are delightful (well, most are anyway) Granny Blue is fun and her handling of her grandchildren is enjoyable to see and the closeness of the Alzate family is heartwarming.  The story is filled with life - there's regrets and anger, love and family and overall a sense of belonging and happiness.  Of course, there's a touch of angst and some moments that brought a tear to my eye or a flutter of my heart, but this only makes the story more honest and joyful to read.  I certainly recommend this one, as well as other stories by Ms. Wilde, if you haven't had a chance to read any yet. Ms. Wilde is on my favorites list because her stories always leave the reader with that feel-good feeling that I simply love.  (received copy from Edelweiss for honest review)
